The New York Times recently published a study on muscle memory. The study found that when you build up your muscles, you are strengthening the connections between neurons in your brain to create new pathways for movement. This is called "muscle memory" and it's real! For example, if I'm an avid runner, my legs have strengthened their connection with one another over time which allows me to run faster than someone who doesn't exercise regularly.
